This has been an exciting couple of weeks for our apprentices as they took part in the WorldSkills UK Regional Competitions across the welding and metal fabrication categories.
Last week, six apprentices from the WEC Engineering Academy took part in the North West Regional Welding Competition, demonstrating the knowledge and practical skills they have developed throughout their apprenticeships. We are thrilled to announce that WEC apprentices 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the North West region – an outstanding result and a testament to their hard work and dedication.
The WorldSkills welding competition is designed to test apprentices across a broad range of industry skills. Competitors are assessed on health and safety, independent working, manual dexterity, precision, multi-process welding techniques, attention to detail, numerical ability, quality assurance, and their understanding of national and international welding standards. Securing a place among the top competitors in such a demanding challenge is a fantastic achievement.
This week the focus shifted to the North West Regional Fabrication Competition, held at Coleg Cumbria. Four apprentices from the WEC Engineering Academy proudly represented us, delivering excellent performances throughout the event. We are delighted to share that all four competitors finished within the top 10 across the North West , highlighting the high standard of fabrication skills within our apprenticeship programme.
Across the WorldSkills Categories, a total of 10 WEC Engineering Academy apprentices have represented us in the regional competitions, and every one of them should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.
Congratulations to all of our apprentices who took part. The journey now continues for our top three welding apprentices, who have secured their place in the UK Finals. There, they will compete against around 100 apprentices from across the country for the opportunity to progress even further in the competition. We wish them every success and look forward to supporting them as they continue their WorldSkills journey.
