Aerospace CNC Machining
Aerospace CNC machining requires precision, repeatability and quality control. Components, tooling and fixtures must be manufactured to exact specifications, often using lightweight, high-strength or difficult-to-machine materials.
We provide aerospace CNC machining services for customers requiring dependable UK subcontract manufacturing. Our capabilities include multi-axis CNC machining, milling, turning, large machining and support for complex components and assemblies.
Quality within Aerospace Machining
Customers in the aerospace industry need machining suppliers who fully understand the importance of quality, traceability, inspection and on-time delivery for safety critical components. At WEC Machining, we provide high precision aerospace machining services supported by strict quality systems and fully documented traceability throughout the manufacturing process. Our industry accreditations demonstrate our commitment to consistently delivering reliable, high quality aerospace components you can depend on.
WEC Group Expands Machining Capabilities with £10M Investment
To strengthen our capabilities in precision machining and aerospace machining, we have invested £10 million in a 60,000 sq ft heavy machining and nuclear fabrication facility in Blackburn. The site is one of Europe’s largest subcontract machining centres, supporting sectors including aerospace, defence, nuclear and offshore.
It features six large CNC machining centres capable of producing complex components up to 30 metres in length and 5 metres in diameter. This increases our machining capacity and enables WEC Machining to deliver turnkey solutions for large scale, high precision aerospace machining projects.
Recent Projects

Invar Mould Tools
WEC Group have been manufacturing Aerospace Mould Tools in Invar, Aluminium and Mild Steel for over 25 years. Recent Projects include the very intricate fabrication of a Belly Panel Mould Tool out of Invar Material. The egg box was fabricated out of 1/4” thick Invar material and the Mould Tool top plate was formed out of 25mm thick Invar plate and was CMM checked prior to Welding. It was then fabricated onto the egg box by one of our coded welders (TIG rooted and then MIG filled). The “A surface” was then precision machined down to 12mm thick and the Mould Tool was Helium Vacuum Tested prior to delivery to our customer.

Wing Jigs
Project: Wing Jigs
Location: Airbus Chester
Aircrafts: A320 & A380
WEC Group has manufactured and installed Wing Jigs at various Airbus Assembly Lines in the UK. These have included the A320 LVER Wing Jig 2 and the Jig for the A380 Metal Treatment Plant.
Case Studies
Here are a selection of Machining projects we have completed for the aerospace sector for leading Tier 1 and Tier 2 manufacturers. These in-depth case studies showcase our capabilities in precision engineering, complex assembly, and high-specification component manufacturing.

Precision Engineering for an Air Ambulance
The Challenge: A customer required a high-quality precision-machined component for use within a newly designed air ambulance, with dependable communication throughout the manufacturing process.
Our Support: WEC Machining manufactured the component and provided regular progress updates, giving the customer’s design team valuable insight throughout production. Following completion, our team visited the customer on site and saw the component positioned within the new air ambulance.
Customer Feedback: The customer praised the excellent communication and regular updates, highlighting how helpful these were to their design team during the manufacturing process.
The Result: A precision-engineered component supporting an important aviation application, backed by responsive service, clear communication and high-quality manufacturing.
Blast Baskets for Aero Engine Test Beds

Project: Blast Baskets for Aero Engine Test Beds
Client: Rolls Royce
Location: Derby, East Kilbride, Cardiff
WEC Group has fabricated and installed multiple Test Beds for various organisations such as Rolls Royce (Test Bed 54 and 80), General Electrics based in Wales and BAE Systems in Scotland. One of our most recent projects is a 17m long x 6.5m diameter blast basket for the worlds largest indoor engine test bed facility at Rolls Royce, Derby.
The testbed will support engines such as Trent XWB and Trent 100 and will also be able to facilitate the UltraFan, which is Rolls Royce’s engine for the next generation of aircraft.
